You are starting out to get into the filming industry. With your portfolio that has been garnered throughout your education years seems insufficient, you need to lay out your fundamental knowledge in use to ensure an industry standard setting.
By understanding the fundamental knowledge on how to make a professional video, it will help with your practical usage as u keep on improving over the course of your career life in the film industry. Therefore, we have prepared 5 beginner tips to make a professional video.
Creating a storyboard helps to visualise how you want to plan your scenes. It also helps with presenting your ideas to your clients prior to production. Storyboarding usually starts at the initial stage of the filming, when production has not been prepared yet. This is between your creative team and the client to understand the story even better.
It is also a planning tool, to ensure what are the equipment needed in each scene. Now, storyboard also helps with scripting as it helps writers on what they can provide during the storyboarding stage.
Do not consistently add zoom and panning. It distracts your audience from focusing on the actual scene. Instead, concentrate on letting the motion happen naturally. Let the action of the actors occur as your camera pans or zooms into the exact scene.
Cameras do not respond to lights the same way as the human eye does. Additional lighting apart from natural light such as the sun, helps to define the video to be comparable to the human eyes. The correct lighting also helps to determine the mood of the scene and can evoke certain kinds of emotions of palette depending on what the scene is about. There are a few types of lighting such as softbox or LED light. It depends on what video creators want to portray in the scene itself.
A good audio means that the video is embedded with a high-quality sound. Even if the audio is horrible but with a high quality video, the overall experience from the audience will get affected.
Thus, it helps to understand the equipment that you need to use. Equipments that you need to take not of are;
Boom shotgun microphone - This helps with minimising the sound from the surrounding.
Wireless sound system - Usually attached to the back or hidden under or at the back of the actor depending on the shot.
Sound Mixer - Which is equally important. It helps to boost or eliminate sound frequencies.
This relates back to the first tip, which is storyboarding. By producing storyboards, it helps video creators to analyse which scenes need to be in a real background and which scenes need to be in a green screen. Green screen helps to create visual effects for added elements into the video itself. However, in a natural setting, the scene can be done against a real background.
